September at APEX: AI, Opportunity & What’s Next

CEO Reflection — September 2026

The Workforce Is Changing — Our Value Has to Change With It

There is no question that the world of work is changing quickly.

Artificial intelligence is reshaping jobs, changing how companies operate, and transforming the way organizations recruit talent. At the same time, employers and staffing companies continue to look at offshore recruiting and outsourced workforce solutions as ways to reduce costs and increase capacity.

But there is another side to the story.

Millions of jobs are still open across the United States, and companies still need talented people to move their businesses forward. The challenge is no longer simply finding more candidates. It is finding the right people, with the right skills, at the right time—and creating a hiring strategy that makes sense for the business.

Employers are facing very real workforce challenges: not enough available people, budgets that do not support the market rate required to attract the right talent, and attendance problems that disrupt production and jeopardize commitments to their customers.

A staffing partner’s value cannot be measured simply by the number of résumés submitted.

It must be measured by our ability to understand those challenges, know the market, solve problems creatively, and help businesses build a workforce strategy that protects their operations and deliverables.

Some jobs will inevitably be automated because employers simply cannot find enough people who want to do them. Fast-food kiosks are an obvious example. When technology fills a persistent workforce gap and allows a business to continue serving its customers, automation can make perfect sense.

But when your business is people, you cannot automate the human part of the work.

Technology can make recruiting faster. AI can help with sourcing, screening, communication, and administrative tasks. Offshore resources may provide additional capacity.

But neither replaces the value of understanding a company, knowing its market, building relationships with candidates, and recognizing when the person behind the résumé is the right fit.

Think about the conversations involved in making a career change.

People are sharing very personal information about their career goals, compensation, benefits, family needs, and concerns about a counteroffer. They want to speak with someone who understands their circumstances and knows their industry and local market—including what employers are paying, which skills are in demand, and what opportunities are realistic.

Those conversations require trust, context, empathy, and judgment.

They require someone who can listen, ask the right questions, and help a person navigate one of the most important decisions in their life.

Trust itself has also become one of the biggest barriers in recruiting.

Job seekers are bombarded every day with scam calls, texts, emails, and fraudulent job offers. They are understandably cautious when an unfamiliar recruiter asks them to discuss their employment history, compensation, or other personal information.

Impersonal or scripted communication, a lack of transparency, or difficulty verifying the recruiter and the opportunity can intensify that concern—even when the opportunity is legitimate.

As scams become more sophisticated and candidates become more guarded, any recruiting model built primarily around high-volume, transactional outreach—including offshore recruiting—will face a greater challenge earning the trust required to succeed.

Credibility, transparency, market knowledge, and authentic relationships will matter more now than ever.

That is where talent acquisition has an incredible opportunity.

Our responsibility is not to compete against technology. It is to use technology intelligently while becoming even better at the things technology cannot replace:

  • Relationships
  • Trust
  • Problem-solving
  • Market knowledge
  • Truly understanding people

At APEX Staffing Co, we believe the future of recruiting will be a combination of technology, data, strategy, and genuine human connection.

As the workforce continues to evolve, our goal remains the same: help companies overcome workforce challenges, build stronger teams, protect their customer commitments, and help people find opportunities where they can thrive.

The tools may be changing. The importance of people is not.

And as summer winds down and students head back to school, it is a fitting reminder that growth requires all of us to keep learning.

The workforce is entering a new season, too—and this is our opportunity to evolve, strengthen our value, and remain focused on what matters most: people.

Career Corner

AI Is Changing Jobs: Understand Your Career Options

AI is changing the workplace, but that does not mean opportunity is disappearing.

It means responsibilities are shifting and the skills employers value are evolving.

Instead of asking only:

“Will AI replace my job?”

Ask:

  • Which parts of my job can AI help complete?
  • Which responsibilities still require human judgment?
  • How is AI being used in my industry?
  • What new positions could it create—and what should I learn now?

The answer will look different in every field.

In manufacturing, AI may support quality inspections, predictive maintenance, scheduling, and production planning.

In finance, it can analyze data and automate routine reporting.

In healthcare, it may assist with documentation, claims, scheduling, and research.

In sales and marketing, it can support research, content, and customer communication.

In the skilled trades, it may improve diagnostics, estimating, and access to technical information—but it cannot replace hands-on knowledge.

Take Time to Research Where Your Career Is Headed

Helpful resources include:

  • The Bureau of Labor Statistics AI Exposure Categories
  • The Occupational Outlook Handbook
  • O*NET Online
  • CareerOneStop

Then look at your local market.

Review current job postings for your position and for the next position you want. Pay attention to which software, AI tools, skills, and certifications appear repeatedly.

Compare those requirements with your experience and identify one or two realistic gaps you can begin closing.

The candidates who stand out will not necessarily be the people with the most technical AI knowledge.

They will be the people who understand how their industry is changing and know how to combine technology with judgment, reliability, creativity, accountability, and strong relationships.

Your career does not have to compete with technology.

Learn how to make technology part of your advantage.

As summer winds down and students head back to school, make this your own season of learning.

Choose one skill. Take a class. Test one approved tool. Track how the requirements in your field continue to change.

Employer’s Edge

A Smarter Recruiting Strategy: Balancing AI, Efficiency & Human Connection

For employers, the attraction of AI and offshore recruiting is understandable.

Both can reduce costs, increase speed, and create additional capacity. AI can assist with résumé screening, candidate matching, scheduling, routine communication, and administrative work.

But efficiency alone is not a workforce strategy.

The better question is not simply:

“What can we automate or outsource?”

It is:

“Where should technology create efficiency so our people can spend more time doing the work that creates real value?”

Start with the workforce problem.

Do you lack applicants?

Is the pay below market?

Are attendance and turnover affecting production or customer deliverables?

Are slow decisions causing candidates to drop out?

These problems require different solutions.

AI can process applications, but it cannot fix uncompetitive compensation.

Offshore resources can increase outreach, but more calls will not correct unrealistic requirements, slow decisions, or a poor candidate experience.

Use technology for repetitive, time-consuming work.

Let it organize information, identify possible matches, schedule interviews, send reminders, and reduce administrative demands.

That gives recruiters more time for work that requires human judgment.

AI can identify someone whose résumé contains the right words.

It cannot fully understand why that person wants to leave, what motivates them, whether they will thrive on a particular team, or how to guide them through compensation, benefits, family considerations, and a counteroffer.

Trust also matters.

Candidates receive scams and fraudulent job offers every day. Impersonal communication or difficulty verifying the recruiter and opportunity can cause qualified people to disengage.

Offshore resources can provide valuable capacity, but they do not automatically bring knowledge of local pay, competitors, commuting patterns, shift challenges, or the available labor pool.

The issue is not location.

The issue is whether recruiters understand the employer, the position, the market, and the candidate.

The strongest model combines technology, selective outsourcing, and experienced recruiting professionals.

Success should be measured through:

  • Qualified candidates
  • Interview attendance
  • Accepted offers
  • Successful starts
  • Retention
  • Protected customer commitments

Not simply calls made or résumés submitted.

Technology should create efficiency.

Relationships, market knowledge, problem-solving, and human judgment should create the value.
